Sorry I haven’t posted in nearly two months! Things have been so hectic. For those of you who didn’t already know, Adam and I got engaged in Venice, Italy! <3 This our engagement story
It was August 31st and we had been in Europe a little under a week. This day specifically was our second day in Venice. As soon as we stepped off the train, I was already in love with Venice. Every single thing about Venice is beautiful (and it actually doesn’t stink!). The people are friendly, the views are beautiful, and I love being surrounded by water. There are no cars on Venice, so everything is in walking distance. There are canals and bridges everywhere, and the water taxis are so much fun!
On this particular day, our plans mainly focused around the gondola ride. For my birthday, Adam gifted me a photo session in Venice. This should have been a big proposal sign to most people, but it wasn’t much of a sign me. We have done a photo session in the past and had a blast. Also, we really love photos. For our 1 year anniversary, we both (unknowingly) made scrapbooks/photo books for each other. We plan to keep our scrapbook updated each year, so lots of photos are a must!
August 31st started out as a very regular (vacation) day and I had no clue the rest of my life would be forever changed after this day. We went to the Rialto Market and bought food for breakfast and lunch. Then I took way too long getting ready and switching back and forth between a few dresses I packed. Finally, I was ready to go and were out the door. We met with our amazing photographer Marta, and she took a few pictures of us before we got on the gondola. We only had a one-hour session, and gondola rides are a minimum 30 minutes, so I knew the majority of our shoot would be on the gondola. Funny thing – we had to wait nearly 10 minutes to get on the gondola because our gondolier was taking a gelato break!
Eventually, we got on the gondola to take pictures. Marta took pictures for a few minutes and then said “let’s take a romantic pose”, so Adam gets on one knee. I’m not sure what I was thinking, but this did not make me instantly think “OMG Adam is proposing”. I actually thought he was sitting down to help me stand up haha. So, Adam is on one knee giving his “proposal speech” AND I STILL DON’T REALIZE HE IS PROPOSING!
For those of you who don’t know us well, Adam and I are still in the “honeymoon phase” (after almost 2 years!) and nearly every other day we are giving each other long spiels about how in love we are and how amazing the other person is. So to me, this was just a normal romantic conversation we are having on the gondola. As you can see from this picture, I clearly don’t realize what’s going on.
Finally, Adam pulls the ring out of his pocket and I realize THIS IS IT! THE MAN OF MY DREAMS IS PROPOSING TO ME!!!! I was completely speechless and filled with joy, happiness, and excitement. I would be lying if I told you I remember every single detail of this moment, but I can tell you I remember the look on his face when I said yes! The rest of the day and the rest of our vacation was so magical and unforgettable. We went to an amazing restaurant and sat near the canal for dinner. The prosecco and smiles were endless, and that night we started planning the rest of our lives together!
I still cannot believe Adam pulled off this proposal so flawlessly! We spend almost every waking minute together, aside from when we are at work. I could not have dreamt of a better proposal and I am so glad Marta was there to document every single moment of it!
Adam – by our second date I knew I was going to marry you. You are so intelligent, patient, and caring. You understand me like no one else can, and you constantly help me be the best person I can be. I could go on and on, but I’ll save the rest for our vows <3 I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you!
